CROCS ON THE MOVE

Hi

During my first week back at Croker Island we had some excitement. A two metre crocodile had found its way into a local resident's house yard. As the water contracts on the floodplain crocodiles fight for the remaining space. This forces some to walk many kilometres over dry country to a creek or the sea. This crocodile almost made it to Mission Bay however some fences got in the way.

All the rangers were at various funerals and unavailable so I assisted Clint from the local council to restrain this crocodile and re-locate it to Mission Bay. Before we covered it's eye it was rather cranky and snappy however the sheet covering its eye's calmed it significantly. Once at the beach, we took the tape off and removed the sheet however it was in no hurry to move, requiring a slap with the sheet to get it moving. It leapt off the buggy tray, across the sand into the water and swam off to find a new patch.

While flying out to Croker Island I noticed something a little suspicious in this creek on the Coburg Peninsula.

Zooming in shows a fishing vessel - however this is in a National Park. We passed these photos onto the rangers who confirmed that there should be no fishing in this creek. Some one will receive a fine.

Just prior to landing at Croker Island we flew over the north western end of the floodplain. The beach can be seen on the left of the photo. The lines of trees, the strips of green and dry mark where the beach was located at times in the past.

While in Queensland recently I spent some time helping to repair some leaks in the roof of our Yarraman house. Laura visited and assisted one afternoon - very helpful!

The leaks turned out to be at the bottom of each of the side walls of the three dorma sections. The cladding had been fitted incorrectly. I had to removed the cladding and then Custom Roofing did their work before I replaced the cladding - this time fitting it correctly. Some recent rain have produced no further leaks. The final test will be a SE Qld storm however I am quietly confident we have fixed the leaks.

We also took a quick drive to NSW to visit Alastair and Cathy and most of their family including their new grandson Lachie Macdonald. Welcome to the Macdonald clan Lachie.

Alastair and Cathy had some orphaned lambs. Nancy enjoyed assisting at feeding time.

While passing through Darwin, Dean and Noah had covid so I could not stay with them - only visiting a couple of times and keeping our distance.

Until the next blog post, take care and blessings to you all.

Bryan and Nancy
