The Isle of Skye, Scotland

MONDAY - The ferry arrived back in Uig on the Isle of Skye around 6:00pm. We had booked a B&B called 'Seabound' around the north eastern side of Skye so took the road north from Uig. It follows the coast most of the way and we were treated to some spectacular coastal scenery.

Those who watch the TV program 'Grand Designs - UK' may recall a program where two ladies bought a block of land on the Isle of Skye and then built a turf roofed house which overlooked a bay. The design was very different to any of the other housing in the area. Well, as we were driving to Seabound B&B Nancy recognised the house.

The Seabound B&B was quite literally right by the sea, with more spectacular views, as you will see from the photos below.

TUESDAY - After breakfast we continued around the coast stopping regularly to enjoy the scenery and to take the odd photo. From Portree we took the road north west to near Dunvegan Castle and then back around the north side of the Cuillins. We had booked into Mrs MacRae's B&B at Kyleakin. whom our friends, James and Ruth had recommended however it was too early in the afternoon to check in so we took a minor road around the southern side of the Cuillins. These are the highest peaks on Skye and are very popular with hikes and climbers. Nancy thought some parts of the Cuillins reminded her of Cradle Mountain in Tasmanian. A local who has a daughter in Tasmania agreed with her.

Mrs MacRae's B&B is right by the bridge that links Skye to the mainland of Scotland. Once again we had to 'endure' a scene from our bedroom window of a loch rimmed by mountains. We can certainly endorse James and Ruth's recommendation of Mrs MacRae's B&B. She is also a keen supporter of MAF.

The ferry manoeuvring to dock at Uig. Ahead of the ferry on the slopes beyond the waters edge crofts (small parcels of land)  can be see.

The west coast of Skye just north of Uig. The Isles of Harris and Lewis can be seen in the distance.

Housing from another era.

The 'Grand Designs' house mentioned above.

These towering cliffs overlook the northern part of Skye.

Sunrise at the Seabound B&B on Skye - the view from our bedroom window.

The window to the left of the photo was our bedroom window with views over the water and the mountains view behind the B&B.

The white building to left of the three trees down by the waters edge is the Seabound B&B - literally right on the water front.

Spectacular towering cliffs are the main feature of this part of Skye.

We took this road, a detour from the coast road which provided some grand views.

The Old Man Stor.

In the distance, the Cuillins.

We are in Scotland.

The Cuillins - For Nancy this view reminded her of Cradle Mountain in Tasmania.

Jet streams over the Cuillins.

The Cuillins - viewed from the south.

Fishing and wildlife tours are big here.

The eastern part of the Cuillins - on our way to Mrs MacRaes' B&B.

Mrs MacRae's B&B - the white building.

The view from Mrs MacRae's B&B - we are doing it 'tough' here. Noted the  beautiful garden.

The view to the left of Mrs MacRae's - the high bridge connecting Skye to the mainland.

And the view to the right of Mrs MacRae's B&B - lochs, glens and mountains.  In the next blog we will be heading up the west coast of Scotland.
